Watchwomen Staff
Amy
Alias: Amy
Location: Bay Area California
Stats: State prosecutor, trained (intellectually scarred) by Jesuits. I have a penchant for ethical systems, world views and moral quandaries. So, Watchmen was right up my fannish alley when it hit the stores back in the 80s.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Comedian, Manhattan and all the humans running the story from the edges
Super Power: Finding parking spaces in San Francisco
Angel
Alias: isinsin
Location: Hong Kong, China
Stats: A normal geeky(looking) high school girl who seldom studies but somehow always manages to pass. Used to play video games and ran into a slash fandom website while looking for some game guide at the age of 9. Read some manga and anime but didn’t really like them, so 3 or 4 years ago she joined the fandom of comics (thanks to JLA animation produced ages ago) and tv series.
She almost missed the Watchmen movie because it was directed by Zack Snyder, because she hates the slow-mos in 300. Until she watched the trailer on youtube that her interest was raised, yay to Smashing Pumpkins’ song!
By the way the Chinese translation in Hong Kong to “Watchmen” is like “The Spectacular Heroes Who Protect”
Favorite Watchmen Character: Rorscahch is the safe choice. Then comes Comedian and Adrian Veidt
Super Power: Pretending to be a good/nerdy kid in front of people
Becca
Alias: msavi
Location: South Carolina
Stats: Becca has been a fan of scifi & fantasy for her entire life, but grew to love comics more recently, after she landed herself a proper Comics Geek husband. She happily makes up for what she lacks in comics cred by editing the crap out of geeky fangirl podcasts like Snapecast and Watchwomen. She comes to the Watchmen fandom with a voracious appetite for anime, a Rorschach action figure, and a lightsaber she constructed herself from plumbing tubes and rubber o-rings.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Rorschach, with a soft spot for Nite Owl I
Super Power: The ability to make enemies’ voices sound like chipmunks on crack
Ellen
Alias: flyingrat42
Location: Bangkok, Thailand (…not kidding.)
Stats: Lurking from the shadows, Ellen is new to the “rabid fangirl” thing but is enjoying every minute of it. Having read and loved the Watchmen graphic novel a few years ago, she was thrilled to see the movie in IMAX in a sumptuous Bangkok theater, and continues to be amazed at the quality of the fandom that has grown up around the work. In the rest of her time, she is a software engineer and historical reenactment geek, and will happily throw poetry/music recommendations at anyone who asks.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Adrian Veidt, AKA “Ozyfabulous”
Super Power: Balancing things on her head (which is remarkably flat) and failing at tai chi
Emma
Alias: Emma
Location: Duckburg
Stats: Emma is an illustrator and painter and currently works in graphic design. She has always been obsessed with Popular Media and been a comics fan since the age of 7, beginning with newspaper comic strips and later becoming interested in comic books (starting out with ’70s/’80s superheroes and Disney comics, but later getting into Golden Age, Silver Age, and Underground comics). Manga, European, and Indy comics followed. Emma bought her first fanzine at age 11 and attended her first fan convention at 12. She read Watchmen when it was originally published in the 1980s. Emma is also fascinated with animation (especially Disney and American cartoons of the 1920s-40s), but was drawn into anime in the early 1980s. She has been online since 1990 and has had an online blog since 2002. Over the years, Emma has participated in dozens of fandoms and is glad that Watchmen finally has a fandom of its own.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Rorschach
Super Power: Knows what evil lurks
Kayleigh
Alias: Sandoz
Location: Virginia
Stats: Comic fan since childhood. Kayleigh is a Marvel Girl at heart, though Watchmen is the obvious exception. Aside from comics she likes hanging out in bookstores, writing, watching horror movies, dyeing her hair red, and listening to Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights” on repeat.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Nite Owl II
Super Power: Neurosis.
Meagan
Alias: perosha
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Stats: Meagan knows nothing about comics, having only ever read one (Watchmen), and that only after seeing the movie…in Russian. She loves the story but hates the characters, if that makes any sense. When not Watchwomening she can usually be found clowning it up in other fandoms, particularly Harry Potter, and recently started making fanvids.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Bubastis
Super Power: Bottomless stomach
Megan With Only One A
Alias: meganphntmgrl
Location: Bay Area California
Stats: Megan was born twenty years to the day before the 2009 film version of Watchmen was released, making it the first time she’d ever received a fandom for her birthday. When not watching the Watchmen, she can be found squeeing over dancing vampires, doing the Time Warp, or wondering if her Hogwarts letter is just ten years late.
Favorite Watchmen Character: OZY OZY OZY OY OY OY… with a side of Dan and Sally.
Super Power: Can make crossovers between anything.
Rachael (with an “a”)
Alias: chaeche
Location: Seattle, WA
Stats: Boring patent attorney by day and rabid fangirl by night, Rachael fell in love with Watchmen when she read the graphic novel shortly before the release of the film in 2009. In addition to watching the Watchmen (with admittedly a bit too much attention), Rachael participates in Harry Potter fandom, reads manga, and loves making fan videos under her super sekrit vidding identity.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Rorschach…with a side of Nite Owl II
Super Power: Surrounding herself with people who are much more talented and interesting than she is
The Other Rachel (no “a”)
Alias: Spy or I Am Your Spy
Location: Hogtown
Stats: Corrupts the youth of Athens for a living. In her copious spare time, Spy makes books, fights The Man, and occasionally dresses up like a steampunk airship pilot. She is currently writing a comic that is nothing whatsoever like Watchmen.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Rorschach.
Super Power: Putting disturbing thoughts in your head
Yet Another Rachel
Alias: Rane
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Stats: A Human Resources Temp at a University she’d rather be attending, Rane consoles herself with a variety of geek pursuits, most notably reading comics, watching sci-fi television series, consuming obscene quantities of fanfic and spending a surprising amount of time thinking about the logic of non-canon ships. Rane has also been at various points both a successful and unsuccessful writer, but has only managed to almost finish one piece of fanfiction, for a ship that doesn’t particularly interest her. Her most amazing writing achievement is the ability to ruthlessly test all smut scenes for realism. (This once resulted in a rather awkward 10 minutes sitting on a desk and attempting to be two people at once.) While she is unfailingly devoted to Watchmen and the cult of Alan Moore, she shares her affections with the cult of the Internet Jesus, Warren Ellis, and thinks that you’ll probably like him too, if you don’t already.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Somehow it feels dirty to say Comedian, and yet…
Super Power: Yarn Detangling and Partial Ambidexterity! (Lamest superhero EVER!)
Rebecca
Alias: quietprofanity
Location: New Jersey shore
Stats: A job-seeking journalist/writer, Rebecca has been a comics fan since she was 11, an active fandom participant since 13 and finally got around to reading Watchmen in 2006. In addition to comics, Rebecca is also a fan of anime, science fiction television and classical literature, and often reviews books when not doing fandom stuff.
Favorite Watchmen Character: Laurie and Rorschach
Super Power: Can write, play solitaire and listen to music at the same time; scrawling angry notes over bad comics
